Five teenagers have been arrested after a car was set ablaze on an elderly couple’s drive way this week.

Firefighters said the car was “well alight” by the time they arrived at Cumberland Drive, Hook, shortly before 1am on Wednesday, September 2.

The Peugeot 106 was just inches from the house, but the blaze was caught before it spread to the building.

The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, began in the car’s seating area and investigators were this week trying to work out how it started.

Police were called to reports of a group of youths acting suspiciously, who ran off when the fire started.

Officers cordoned off the area and later arrested three 15 year olds and two 16 year olds, who were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

A police spokeswoman said it was not thought to be a malicious attack aimed at the couple, but potentially a case of antisocial behaviour.
