Countryside Alliance venture into Kingston for cruise up the river

Countryside Alliance campaigners will hold a drinks do on the river in Kingston on Thursday evening to raise money for the pressure group.

Turk’s Silver Dolphin will be filled with food by chef Mark Gilchrist, champagne by Pol Roger and a live performance from soul and blues band Soul Express.

Countryside Alliance chairman, Rachael Jupp, said: "The Game-to-Eat evening will give people a chance to sample fine game cooking in exciting and original surroundings.

"We are looking forward to welcoming people aboard Turks’ Silver Dolphin for great food, champagne, and dancing."

A free coach will carry people back to Fulham at the end of the evening.

Some years ago when the "Countryside Alliance" started I answered an advert in a newspaper that included an appeal by David Steel. I took it at face value and sent off to ask for more information. Would you believe that they then sent me information stating that I was now a supporter of their "Alliance". What sickend me is that it turns out that it essentially was about promoting fox hunting and shooting. It wasn't for people like me who are concerned about the way the countryside is treated; it was all about making sure blood sports are promoted. I wrote back immediately asn demanded that they remove my name and address from their list of so-called supporters. Don't be fooled by the "Countryside Alliance". Shame on the Surrey Comet for promoting them.

Oh and why the heck should anyone in the Surry Comet circulation area want a coach to Fulham? It's the usual Land Rover Discovery set from Fulham spending a little time in charming old Kingston - maybe they think Kingston is "the countryside". This is not worthy of a news item. They shoudl re-name it the Countrycide Dalliance.

The Surrey comet is free to include any articles it believes is of interest. You obviously believe in censorship - please come to my country and see for yourself how it really works.

Steve, I'll bet you are still counted as a supporter, maybe not by name but for sure by number. That's how the 'countryside alliance' boasts more than about ten supporters, by including anyone who is foolish enough to show the slightest bit of interest. Basically you are right, they are a pro blood sport lobby and nothing else. Mysterious why the free bus goes to Fulham though, maybe there is going to be a fox hunt on Parsons Green.
