A person is fighting for their life after a crash in Tadworth.

A BMW crashed at around 3.45am on Friday morning (January 20) on the A217 Brighton Road between the Reigate Road in Burgh Heath and the Tadworth Roundabout.

Three other people had minor injuries.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of a number of driving related offences, including aggravated taking a vehicle without consent.

The car involved in the crash was brought to the attention of police before the collision and so the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police: “Surrey Police has launched an investigation after a serious collision in Tadworth earlier this morning (Friday, 20 January).

“The single-vehicle collision, involving a BMW, took place at around 3:45am on the A217 Brighton Road between the Reigate Road in Burgh Heath and the Tadworth Roundabout.

“One person has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“Their next of kin have been informed. Three other people received minor injuries.

“Three people have been arrested on suspicion of a number of driving related offences, including aggravated taking a vehicle without consent.

“The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), who have begun an independent investigation, as the car involved came to the notice of the police prior to the collision.

“The A217 Brighton Road has now reopened.
