The second Hounslow Sports Forum Awards Evening was held at The Houses of Parliament last week, as more than 150 years of sports volunteering were celebrated.

MP and Hounslow Sports Forum vice president Alan Keen hosted the event in front of a large gathering, including the 11 recipients of the Hounslow Sports Forum Volunteer Award and their guests.

Also in attendance were council officers and representatives of sporting bodies and organisations.

The awards ceremony was led by Hounslow Sports Forum president Donald Palmer OBE and chairman Pete Baveystock, as each of the 11 winners accepted their gongs.

The awards were presented to Angela Underwood (badminton), Alma Metson (fitness - 2000 Club), Peter Baveystock (Grasshoppers RFC), the Ouseph family of Joe, Aysha, Rajani, Reshmi and Rajiv (Hounslow Badminton Association), Anne Rowsome (aquathlon and cycling), Susanna Gillett (Grasshoppers Netball Club), Steve Elmhirst (Woodfield Badminton Club), Christina Wadland (Disability Network Hounslow), Janet Simmonds (fitness - 2000 Club), the Ackerman family (Hounslow Badminton Association) and Sheila Collins (Hounslow Badminton Club).

Palmer then took the floor and presented HSF Volunteer Awards to Pete Baveystock and Sheila Collins. He then also presented each of them with a gold 30-year award, from the London Federation of Sport and Recreation, outlining the impact they had both had generally on sport in Hounslow and more widely in London.

The chairman then thanked all the recipients and guests for coming and reminded them that the HSF was always looking for representatives from sports clubs to get involved.

The next meeting of the HSF is on September 24 and will include the AGM. For further information contact Peter Baveystock on peter.baveystock@ntlworld.com
