A head-on crash at Mount Road Chessington has prompted calls for traffic calming measures to be introduced.

The crash happened at about 1.30pm on Thursday January 17 with a Vauxhall van and a Volkswagen Golf colliding head-on.

A local resident, who did not wish to be named, said that he had seen crashes at least once a year and often head-on.

He added: "How long will it be before someone is killed?

"Cars park on the bend forcing traffic going towards the factory estate onto the wrong side of the road travelling at speeds of 30mph and above.

"In the wet they just skid and crash.

"The council know about the accidents but do nothing."

But calls for a 20mph zone or similar traffic calming measures have been met with positive tones from the Council.

A Kingston Council spokeswoman said: ''The Council is aware of traffic issues in Mount Road and has secured funding for improvements to be carried out in the 08/09 financial year. Local residents will be consulted on the proposals during the design stage of the scheme.''
