A range of new courses for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities will be introduced at the Surbiton branch of Richmond and Hillcroft Adult Community College

The news was announced at its Hillcroft campus last week at a launch event in conjunction with Kingston Voluntary Action.

The New Choices event introduced courses which will focus on employment, health and wellbeing, and independent living.

Principal Gabrielle Flint said: “This event has been fantastic and allowed us to show learners, carers and organisations working with adults with disabilities, the range of supported learning courses we can offer.

“We already have an excellent track record of helping women to return to learning in a supported environment at Hillcroft, we are now extending this for adults with learning disabilities.

“We are starting with day courses this year and plan to develop a residential offer in 2019.”

The launch included taster sessions such as dance, singing, printmaking and hand massage.

Ms Flint added: “We are helping our learners to develop a number of vital skills for life, including communications, learning to make decisions, building independence and skills for work, as well as providing the opportunity to have fun and make friends.

“All of our courses are underpinned by English and maths lessons so learners get a really well-rounded experience.

“We provide bursaries to help with costs and many courses are free.”
