New, state-of-the-art parking meters will soon be installed across the Kingston.

The new machines will include a host of features that Kingston Council said aims to quicken the experience of parking within the borough.

The council said its existing 420 meters across Kingston will be shrunk down to 170 by removing both underused and poorly placed machines. Road signs will be updated, the council said, to clearly show where the nearest meter is.

Although in some cases that could mean a slightly longer walk to a machine, there will be no need to return to your car to display your ticket, the council said.

The machines work in several languages and will accept cash, card and contactless payments.

Motorists will still be able to pay using the RingGo app on their mobile phone device.
