Some of cycling's most talented sprinters will suit up for the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic this month.

German Andre Greipel, who has 22 Grand Tour wins so far, will be joined by Fernando Gaviria and Tour de France star Michael Matthews.

They will also be joined by Olympic track champion Elia Viviana for the race on Sunday, July 30.

German said: “Due to several circumstances I wasn’t able to start in London in previous years, but despite this fact this is a rather new race for a lot of top race riders have already won here.

“Every year the list of participants becomes more and more impressive and with riders like Viviani, Gaviria and Matthews in this edition and it shows a lot of great cyclists want to come to London.

“The promotion of the race to the UCI WorldTour level is the best proof of this and a world city like London deserves a top race.”

Community groups and charities have secured nearly £2.3m in part due to Surrey council’s role in the RideLondon cycling festival over the past four years.
