A disused village hall has been devoured by flames in Chessington, causing major rush hour tailbacks after the road was closed by police.
Smoke and flames can be seen billowing from the hall in Leatherhead Road from across from the Sir Francis Baker Recreation Ground in video footage taken by Sarah Goshawk.
Witnesses said they could hear the disused building collapsing from the park.
Kingston Police have closed the road between Garrison Lane and Rushett Lane while 35 firefighters from Surbiton, New Malden, Kingston and Surrey Fire and Rescue Service douze the flames.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said the whole of the disused building is alight after they were called at 3pm.
Jo Rashbrook took this video of smoke billowing over houses from the Barwell Business Park.
She said: "We work at roomservice by Cort on the Barwell on the upstairs floor. I noticed out of my window huge flames of black smoke in the air, and as my husband is an ex-firefighter I knew it was not good if it's black smoke - which typically means a house fire.
"We then saw huge flames leaping into the air. The fire brigade soon arrived and traffic was halted and [they] seemed to have it under control very quickly."
