Meyer Bergman wants to increase the planned number of homes for the Toby Jug site in Tolworth when it submits its application for re-development.
In July, an outline application from the developer to build 705 was rejected by councillors due to concerns about density and the adverse effects the development would have on traffic.
The developer has now announced in a flyer being circulated to residents in Tolworth that it plans to deliver a greater number of homes in order to supply more affordable housing.
It says: “Meyer Homes remains committed to delivering significant investment in this site and since this decision, the project team has been considering our options.
“We have therefore been looking to develop proposals which reflect the aspirations of the Greater London Authority to see this site deliver a greater number of new homes to the areas than previously proposed.
“This includes an increase in the amount and proportion off affordable homes, meeting one of the new London Mayor’s most important manifesto commitments.”
Residents can view the proposals at a public exhibition at St George’s Church, in Hamilton Avenue on Saturday, October 15 from 10am to 4pm.
Successive applications by Tesco were rejected or withdrawn over more than a decade.
