The anxious wait for GCSE pupils from across Kingston and Elmbridge is finally over.
Year 11 students flocked to their respective schools this morning to collect their eagerly anticipated GSCE results as grades reached record highs at numerous schools.
Tear of joy, relief and commiseration were all on show, with one student sinking to her knees in glee after she discovered she’d passed Maths at Chessington College.
Our reporters were on hand to capture the news as it came rolling in, as well as the best pictures from results day.
Chessington College, Kingston Grammer, and Claremont Fan Court School each recorded its’ best ever results.
But despite the many successes in Kingston and Elmbridge, nationally GCSE results across the board have fallen dramatically compared to last year.
Figures published by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) show 71.3 per cent of girls' entries were awarded at least a C grade, compared with 62.4 per cent of boys.
Last year, 73.1 per cent of girls were awarded a C grade or above, with 64.7 per cent of boys.
