It was already a good time to be a fan of comic book and superhero movies – but things got even better yesterday evening when a Surrey actor took his first bow as an icon of the screen.

Kingston teenager Tom Holland made his maiden appearance as Spider-Man with a cheeky introduction at the end of the already hugely anticipated trailer for the Captain America Civil War film.

The former Wimbledon College and BRIT school pupil swoops in just before the clip finishes, pinching Captain America’s shield with his web.

And it caused a storm on the internet…

Due out on April 29, Captain America Civil War sees the Captain (played by Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr) disagree over legislation to control superheroes.

That rift leads to Marvel’s other superheroes falling into line behind each of them for a massive ruck – and it looks like Spidey may be on Iron Man’s side.

Holland was cast in his web-slinging role after Sony boss Amy Pascal and Marvel executive Kevin Fiege saw his dazzling turn in The Impossible (2012).

Last December, he starred in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea and told us that, at that stage, becoming Spider-Man had yet to dramatically alter his life.

That could be about to change. After Civil War, Tom is expected to star in a solo Spider-Man movie, due out next year.
