A Kingston couple tied the knot on stage at the Royal Festival Hall along with seven other couples – and Kingston’s tumbling phone boxes made an appearance too, writes Josh Budd.
Newlyweds Jon and Sinead Gerlis decided to take part in London’s Festival of Love and were married in a ceremony attended by 300 guests on Sunday, August 30.
Wanting to express their love for their home town on their special day, the pair sought the help of university friend Katherine Moloney to make them a Kingston-themed wedding cake.
She took inspiration from one of the borough’s most iconic landmarks – David Mach’s famous tumbling phone boxes, Out of Order, installed in Old London Road.
Kingston University politics graduate Mr Gerlis, 33, said: “We wanted to represent our love for Kingston in some shape or form.
“We met in Kingston, we love the fact that we’re by the river, and we love the community aspect.”
