Police are still searching for a man and a woman who reportedly hit a security guard in a car crash and fled.

Their car was dumped in nearby Bridle Close after the crash in Penrhyn Road, Kingston at around 4pm today.

All access to nearby Woodbines Avenue was blocked off by police searching the area.

The police helicopter could be seen circling the clear blue sky above Surbiton and Kingston while dog units were also brought in.

A police spokesman said this evening: "Police are investigating an allegation of grievous bodily harm following a road traffic collision in Kingston.

"Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision between two cars in Penrhyn Road Campus at Kingston University, in Kingston-Upon-Thames, at approximately 4.20pm.

"When officers arrived one driver had left the scene.

"Officers were told that while security on campus tried to intervene to diffuse the situation, one of the motorists drove into a male security guard and then drove off.

"London Ambulance Service was called and the guard was taken to a south London hospital. He is in a stable condition.

"The female driver of the other car remained at the scene of the collision."

A Kingston University spokeswoman said: "The police are investigating an incident which occurred just before 4pm this afternoon involving a car hitting two other cars in the University’s Penrhyn Road car park, causing minor damage.

"The car in question also hit one of the university’s security officers who we understand sustained cuts and bruises and was taken by ambulance to Kingston Hospital.

"The university is co-operating fully with the police including providing CCTV footage. We don’t have any further information at this stage.”
