Kingston and Surbiton’s new MP quizzed David Cameron about Crossrail 2 with the first question at Prime Ministers Question Time this afternoon.
James Berry makes his Commons bow
In his maiden televised parliamentary appearance since ousting Liberal Democrat Ed Davey in May, Mr Berry started his question by complimenting the Conservative government’s employment targets.
He said: “The great British jobs boom has earned the Prime Minister and Chancellor the admiration of leaders the world over and the support of my constituents.
“Would my right honourable friends agree that businesses in Kingston and Surbiton could create even more jobs if we had better train services and particularly Crossrail 2?”
The Prime Minister welcomed Mr Berry to parliament after his "excellent" election result before saying that he agreed Kingston constituents and people across London would benefit from the Crossrail 2 programme.
Mr Cameron said: “[Mr Berry] is right to say we have had something of a jobs boost in this country, in his constituency for example the claimant count has fallen by 48 per cent since 2010.
“We will push forward with plans for Crossrail 2 and we are working with TfL on every detailed business case.”
