Police rescued a pigeon which had apparently been abducted by a man who stuffed into a bag in the middle of Kingston town centre this afternoon.
Officers were called to Clarence Street, outside All Saints Church, by a concerned member of the public who reported seeing a man attempting to break a pigeon’s neck.
When the officer arrived he found an elderly man with the bird, still alive, in his bag.
He told police that he liked to take them home and pluck their feathers off.
Sergeant Dave Williams said: “He was an eccentric character I think.
“If our officer hadn’t gone down and rescued the pigeon who knows what horrible fate it would have had.”
No arrests were made.
