Members of a New Malden scout group have become surprise internet stars after a video of them playing a game of human Hungry Hippos went viral. 

Jane Pringle, leader of 1st Malden Scouts, shared a video on Facebook of the group playing Hungry Hippos by rolling around on wooden boards and using washing baskets to catch balls.

The 13 second video was picked up by popular Facebook page The Lad Bible and has now been watched almost eight million times and received nearly 10,000 comments on the site. 

Mrs Pringle has received thousands of Facebook friend requests since posting the video last Thursday.  

She said: “The attention it has got have been a bit overwhelming.

“Soon after the video was put up my phone just went insane and I was receiving so many friend requests I had to get my children to deal with them.

“Eventually I put the video on YouTube to try and take some attention away from the Facebook version.”

Mrs Pringle was surprised that the video received so many good comments.

She said: “The comments have been really positive apart from a little bit of hate for one of the children who cheats at the end.”
