Shoppers in New Malden are being hit with the smell of rotting food coming from a vacated greengrocer.
Decaying bread and fruit can be seen through the window grates of Shree Ganesh in New Malden High Street and passersby have started to complain about a distinct smell coming from the shop.
Shree Ganesh, which is next to Korean restaurant Sorabol, ceased trading on December 22 last year, with a take notice stating the shop owners had 14 days to remove their goods from the premises.
Shelves of mouldy bread can be seen through the shop windows
However shelves appear to still be fully stocked with a mixture of tinned, dry and fresh foods.
Alan Dempster who lives in Kingston Road frequently goes past the shop and says he has started to notice a smell coming from it.
He said: "It is awful and becoming a health hazard.
"Imagine if it was summer and hot with all that food in there.
"Why are they also allowing all that food to go to waste?
"It could have been given away to the food banks."
A Kingston Council spokesperson said the authority was aware of the situation and was "looking into it."
Shree Ganesh's shelves are still fully stocked almost two months after the shop closed
