Armed police swarmed a north Kingston road this afternoon after getting reports of a man with a gun.
Paramedics were also on standby in Latchmere Road near a primary school.
A witness said: "The police appeared to call to someone inside the house a heavily built man came out with shaved head, who was hand cuffed and led away although I didn't see that."
Adi had tweeted: "What the heck is going on in #kingston? Latchmere Rd area.about 7 police vehicles, NHS rapid response +ambo, roads closed??"
Helena Cole had tweeted: “What is happening on Latchmere Rd as loads of police with guns – looks very scary – worried abt my son coming home frm school.”
A police spokesman said: "Officers attended an address in Durlston Road following reports of a man with a firearm.
"Borough officers supported specialist firearm officers but there were no arrests.
"A male attended hospital voluntarily."
It is believed the firearm was a fake and no other firearm was recovered.
Nancy King, who lives in Durlston Road, said: "There were at least six police cars and a large van. Many armed policemen walked past the house, one with an Alsatian."
A spokeswoman from Latchmere School said the school had not been alerted about the gun scare, which had closed the road off to the public.
