Members of an amateur choir will count the Queen as one of their audience when they perform at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Wimbledon Choral Society has been invited to perform alongside Langham Arts Choir at the British Legion’s annual event on Saturday for the 14th consecutive year.
The group, who will send 50 members, will take part in two concerts, a matinee and evening performance, to former and active servicemen, members of the public and royalty, as well as a television and radio audience.
Fittingly the group is celebrating its centenary year, after being founded by Belgian refugees fleeing the advancing German army in 1914.
To mark the occasion Wimbledon Choral Society has incorporated elements pointing towards its past in this year’s programme of events, including an upcoming performance of Belgian composer Joseph Jongen’s Mass at its Christmas Concert at Southwark Cathedral on December 20.
