When Desmond Dekker died suddenly on May 25, 2006, his long-time friend and business partner, Delroy Williams, was deeply affected by the loss of his singing companion.

Williams first met the reggae superstar in the sixties, when they started collaborating musically and performing at venues around the world.

With Dekker’s death, it all came to an end. Williams refused to continue with the band or replace his beloved collaborator, who he considered a "brother".

Until now.

Eight years on from the Israelites singer’s passing, Williams is embarking on a new tour with the elaborately-named Aces, formerly of Desmond Dekker, featuring Delroy Williams and Winston Francis. The aforementioned Winston Francis is himself a hugely respected performer in his native Jamaica, with a five decade-long recording career to his name.

It was Francis, a mutual friend of Dekker’s and Williams’, who first proposed performing the late legend’s back catalogue once again. The Aces come to Kingsmeadow on Saturday, September 13.

In what is promising to be a reggae night to remember, the Aces will be supported by very special guests Dave and Ansell Collins, who topped the UK charts in 1971 with Double Barrell.
