The woods are always full of surprises and Esher Common is no exception.

An impressive new range of wooden play equipment has been installed in the Elmbridge woods and is ready for youngsters to begin exploring.

The equipment, near Copsem Lane car park, is made from natural materials and includes a climbing wall, network of balance beams and an oversized wooden mushroom carved from a tree trunk.

The equipment provides children with opportunities to use their imagination and initiative to explore the structure and will encourage them to build their own den.

Councillor Mary Sheldon, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: "The new natural play trail is a great way for children to look at their surroundings from a different perspective.

"It allows them to be adventurous, creative and also use their problem-solving skills."

To visit the trail, park in Copsem Lane car park and with the car park behind you, take the left hand path, go over the left hand plank bridge and follow the left hand fork.

From there, go up the hill 25m and as the area opens up, you will come to a clearing where you will find the start of the trail.
