Until recently, little was known about Jungle, the songwriting duo behind viral hits The Heat, Platoon and Busy Earnin'.

Through a combination of indifference, arty dance videos and a broken down smoke machine, the faces of Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland - known as J and T - have only recently started to appear as part of the band's publicity.

That doesn't stop them from issuing press pictures of bands which - as far as I can tell - don't feature them.

Intentional or not, the air of mystery still persists around this west London pair, and it only serves to make Jungle's appearance – or non-appearance – at Banquet Records' New Slang night on July 17 all the more intriguing.

The group heads to McClusky’s in the week their eponymous debut album is released.

On stage, the duo is transformed into a seven piece live set-up, playing “mesmeric, kaleidoscopic modern soul”, according to their record label XL.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley said: “Jungle are mysterious – the duo with a press pic of a gang.

“What we do know is there’s a lot of interest around this lot, their all too rare London shows have been sell outs and if ever there was a time to see them it’s the week their album’s out.

”New Slang is 100 per cent an indie night, but on July 17 it turns into a Jungle rave. Fans of Hot Chip, Blood Orange, Kindness, Golden Silvers and Disclosure will love it.”

As usual, the music continues long after the band finishes, with DJs playing classic indie anthems until 2am.

Jungle, New Slang, McClusky's, Thames Street, Kingston, Thursday, July 17, 9pm, £8; for further details visit Banquet Records' website.
