Cesar Picton, River Park or Kingston Academy? New free school name announcement delayed
Backers of Kingston’s first free school have delayed announcing the name of the new school.
Kingston Education Trust (KET) was due to release the name of the new North Kingston Secondary School earlier this month but have delayed the announcement.
Instead KET possible logos have been released.
On their website they posted: “We know how keen everyone is to see the new name and brand for the school declared, but we have also received a lot of feedback from people who still want to express their preference to us before we make our final decision.
“This includes a number of children in local schools who are also keen to see the logos and have their say.
“Please understand that we are delaying briefly in order to involve everyone we can in the future of your new school.”
But dad Kenneth Dunstan, of Latchmere Lane, Kingston, posted on the Kingston School Facebook group: “What I don’t understand is why oh why we have to accommodate the request that has already been addressed and served fairly by the launch of the competition for months now. It is not that they just decided yesterday.
“I just want to get on with it and not delay. I bet you, by the end of the month, there will be requests again for other things...more delays...endless petty requests.”
The group that will run the school is a partnership with Kingston University, Kingston College and Education Kingston which in itself partners with Kingston Council and other borough schools.
Last month it announced the appointment of headteacher Sophie Cavanagh – who is a north Kingston resident.
