'Why do these idiots do this?': Kingston councillor's anger as he says hackers followed dominatrix from his Twitter account

Surrey Comet: Councillor Geoff Austin has fallen victim to Twitter hackers before Councillor Geoff Austin has fallen victim to Twitter hackers before

A Kingston councillor says he has fallen victim to cyber hacking - after his Twitter account followed a number of dominatrix and mistress directories.

Canbury ward councillor Geoff Austin, who tweets as @geofftheref7, said he had been targeted by online mischief makers after a number of accounts offering sexual services were followed from his account.

The bio for one account, for a Mistress Domatella, read: “Experienced and genuine London mistress with my own dungeon and medical room.

“I am the key to unlocking your BDSM fantasies.”

When contacted by the Surrey Comet, Coun Austin, who has 66 followers on Twitter, replied: “Interesting.

“Looks like the person who hijacked my Twitter account last year is doing it again.”

Coun Austin’s account was hacked last year, which resulted in spam messages being sent to people who followed him.

Coun Austin said: “It was just over a year ago.

“It wasn't anything as simple as weight loss things - it was really nasty pornographic stuff that upset some of the people who received it, not to mention me.

“How and why do these idiots do this sort of thing?”

As of yesterday afternoon, @geofftheref7 had unfollowed the accounts.

Similar explanation that we got when Harriet Harman's husband's twitter account was 'unaccountably' linked to some very dodgy content!
Why don't people in the public eye just stay clear of Twitter? Most of their banal scribblings add zippo to the font of human knowledge. I despise the grotesque vanity that convinces Twitter devotees that the rest of the world is waiting with bated reath for their next correscating insight or retort.

Twitter is a terrific communications tool. The downside is some idiots, like those planting unpleasant stuff on the Cllr's, think they're being funny. I just hope that politics isn't the motivator for this sort of crap - it would be a very low act.

It's very unfortunate, and an obvious nuisance, but best just to have a good laugh at it, or let someone else have a fair crack of the whip...
