A woman hit by the number 71 bus in Kingston's Cromwell Road bus station on Saturday afternoon has died.

A spokesman for Kingston police said that the woman, believed to be in her 70s, was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

The Metropolitan Police were called at 4.38pm. The bus station was completely taped off after the incident, redirecting the town's buses using the one way system.

Mike Weston, Transport for London’s director of buses, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died after a collision involving a bus on Saturday.

"A full investigation has been launched into the incident by us, the Metropolitan Police and the bus operator, London United."
