Fire crews attended a small bin fire inside a classroom this morning.

Firefighters from Surbiton and New Malden attended the fire at Tolworth Girls’ School in Fuller’s Way North at 4am.

Ian Meyer, crew manager for red watch at Surbiton fire station, said: “Rubbish was alight in the school through linseed oil. If you put linseed oil on rags or anything like that it could set it off.”

No damage was caused.

There was in fact a lot of damage caused by this fire. GCSE and A level work was destroyed, and the science block has been totally closed since.
