The infuriating traffic queues along Ewell Road in recent months could soon come to an end.

Transport for London (TfL) is set to re-install a monitoring system which will control the phasing of traffic lights between Princes Avenue, and Jubilee Way on the other side of the A3.

Parents have complained that crossing the road near Our Lady Immaculate School in Tolworth is made difficult and dangerous by out-of-sync lights.

Kingston Council officers said the control system could be operational next week.

The council, along with TfL, will carry out surveys to check whether refinements need to be made to the system after it is in place.

Surbiton neighbourhood committee chairman Councillor Malcolm Self said: “It's disappointing that this wasn't resolved earlier, but at least it seems there is a reason why the signals are not operating as they should and that the situation should be resolved.”

A ceremony to officially open the Tolworth Greenway will take place on Thursday.
