Business owners can claim compensation for loss of profit from sewer repairs in Surbiton, the leader of Kingston Council has said.
Councillor Liz Green announced the news on Twitter, and said Thames Water had confirmed the information.
Victoria Road will be closed one-way until the end of the month after concrete was found to have damaged a sewer pipe.
Trade has been hit severely, shopkeepers told the Surrey Comet this week.
Some said they had lost up to 60 per cent of business.
Coun Green said: "It think it is quite right that the businesses should get recompense for that loss of profit.
"I hope the works finish as soon as possible.
"We need the road to be back open and running properly as we run up to Christmas."
