Firefighters used a litter picker to help free a sleeping baby accidentally locked inside a car.

A fire crew from Surbiton was called to King Athelstan Primary School in Villiers Road at 3.45pm today, after a mother accidentally locked her keys in her car - with her sleeping infant in the back.

Firefighters used a crowbar to prize the door open before using a litter picker to lift the door lock.

One firefighter from Surbiton said: "We didn't cause any damage to the car and the baby didn't even wake up.

"The mum was happy, we were happy - and the baby was fast asleep through the whole thing."
