A primary school in Chessington impressed Ofsted inspectors during their latest visit - receiving the second highest grade possible.

Ellingham Primary School in Ellingham Way has been graded as good following an inspection last month, with head Sarah Creegan, staff and governors praised for improving the quality of teaching.

The school was only rated as satisfactory on its last inspection, but has now been hailed for accelerating the rate of student's progress, including those with special educational needs.

The report said: "From starting points, which are much lower than typically expected, pupils, including those with special educational needs, make good progress and reach broadly average standards by the end of Year 6.

"The rate of pupils’ progress has accelerated in recent years as a result of the successful drive to improve the quality of teaching.

"Teaching is now consistently good. Teachers devise more activities which engage and excite pupils to learn."

In order to reach the highest grade of outstanding, teachers needed to enable more students to achieve their highest levels and give more pupils confidence in maths, the report added.
