I read the article by June Sampson about the flyby on Wednesday with great interest.

In 1943 I was sent to the USA to learn to fly and got my wings at Pensacola Florida in 1944.

The aircraft I did this in was the Catalina (PBY) so I am looking forward to seeing one flying again.

I am slightly involved in aviation (at age 89). While I flew 20 different types of aircraft during my career, I did not fly any Hawker aircraft - an omission I feel sorry about.

I guess I shall be on Kingston bridge Wednesday – nostalgia will take over!
