Firefighters, police, and the Army were called to a Surbiton park yesterday evening after a resident reported what he thought was an old Second World War bomb.
But the ‘bomb’ turned out to be part of an old signpost, firefighters said.
Surbiton firefighters said they were called at about 7.30pm to The Wood near Glenbuck Road, where a lump of iron was sticking out of the ground.
Specialist bomb disposal teams and firefighters from Wimbledon were also called.
