Changes to the way children’s centres are run in Kingston are being sent out to the public for consideration.
Kingston Council is proposing a new “hub and spoke” model for its 10 centres across the borough, in a bid to keep the facilities open in the face of funding cuts.
It would see the centres divided into four localities – South of the Borough, North Kingston and Kingston Town, Maldens and Coombe and Surbiton and Tolworth – with one main “hub” centre for each area.
Each hub would receive a higher amount of funding, and oversee the running of the spoke centres in its division.
Councillor Liz Green, lead member for children and young people, said the new system would remove the overheads from the school each centre is attached to.
