Bakers who fancy themselves as the borough’s finest can put their cake making skills to the test at the Heart’s annual food festival.

Whether you are a cupcake making pro or an expert at a classic Victoria sponge, bakers of all ages will go head to head and present their finest creations to former Great British Bake Off contestant Cathryn Dresser.

Bakers will have to make their finest cake and the contest is judged on taste, presentation, skill and creativity.

Dresser says: “I am really excited to be judging this competition.

“Having been involved in series three of The Great British Bake Off I know how hard it can be to create your very best masterpiece, but it is also really good fun.

“I really hope Walton’s bakers rise to the challenge as I am looking forward to seeing some really creative cakes”.

Cake makers will be divided into three age categories; four to 11-year-olds, 12 to 18-year-olds and 18 plus.

Winners will bag either a £50 or £100 voucher to spend at the Heart.

All winners will also receive a signed copy of Dresser’s recipe book Let’s Bake.

Along with the cake off competition, foodies can enjoy more than 60 stalls filled with delicious treats.Chefs Mark Lloyd and Johnny Pustzai will host a summer cooking presentation.

Mark Middleton, manager of the Heart, said: “We are really excited that this year’s food festival is going to be even bigger and better.

“The Heart will host the celebrity chef cooking demonstrations and workshops, kids’ club workshop as well as sampling from some of our own retailers, plus an exclusive summer dining competition.

“It is going to be a superb day for food lovers.”

Entrants must deliver their creation to the competition stand in the plaza before 1pm on the day of the food festival.
