A pub in Putney has been named the perfect place to spend a penny.

The Rocket, in Brewhouse Lane, was awarded a gold star rating in the Loo of the Year Awards 2012.

Inspectors made a secret visit to the pub and they were bowled over by its standards.

Toilets are graded from bronze to gold, while unacceptable toilets are not graded at all.

Judges select winners based on decor and maintenance, as well as cleanliness, accessibility and hand washing.

Andres Balastegui Gonzalez, manager of the Wetherspoon-owned Rocket pub, said: “Staff at the pub work hard to ensure the toilets are in first-class condition at all times.”

Mike Bone, the Loo of the Year Awards 2012 managing director, said: ”The pub richly deserves its gold award.”
