Name: Andree Frieze

Party: The Green Party

Constituency: Richmond Park and North Kingston

Name one thing you will proactively change in the constituency if you are elected
Reduce speed limits to 20mph on all roads where people shop, work and live, like in Brighton, Camden and Islington, as well as on eight red routes across London in a trial by TfL. Doing so reduces collisions, casualties and fatalities and encourages people to walk and cycle more leading to healthier lifestyles and a reduction in traffic congestion.

What has been your proudest achievement within the constituency in the last three years?
Persuading Kingston Council to offer sanctuary to 50 Syrian refugees through a campaign with Citizens UK – now we're working to house them. Since the Vulnerable Persons Relocation Programme was set up in January 2014 just 143 Syrian refugees have come to the UK. So far, Richmond Council has failed to respond to residents' letters and emails asking them to do the same.

What sets you apart from your fellow prospective parliamentary candidates?
My vision. I look at the problems facing this country – food banks, insecure jobs, unaffordable homes, rocketing rents, our NHS at breaking point, global warming – and I chose a party that has plans to tackle them in a fundamental way. Austerity, short-term fixes and election sweetners will not tackle these deep, generational issues. I put the public not profits first.

What has been the most difficult conversation you have had while canvassing?
No difficult ones really, but a recurring topic is that people are undecided because the old 'two way' doesn't hold true any more. My answer is: “vote with your heart as tactical voting hasn't worked. Unless you vote for what you believe in Westminster won't know you want different policies.” If they still can't choose, I point them to voteforpolicies.org.uk.

Why should people in Richmond Park and north Kingston vote for you?
The Green Party is the only one that puts the planet and people at the heart of its policies. Climate change is a fact and we're all affected by it. We have ambitious plans to tackle it, such as insulating all our housing stock to reduce emissions and cut people's heating bills while investing in jobs and skills at the same time.
