In the current climate of a second national lockdown it seems almost impossible to stay inside your house. As the days grow shorter and the temperatures drop, there are less and less ways for us to go and socialise in the outdoors while still adhering to the government guidelines. However, as food shopping is permitted, what better way to do both the grocery run and spend some time in the fresh air than at a local farmers market?

With the concept of outdoor shopping becoming more and more ideal, farmers markets are sprouting up all over the country. In the suburban town of Surbiton, a farmers market is running this month on Saturday the 21st of November, it offers many different foods from freshly baked confectionary to handpicked veg and even home-made alcohol for a more mature audience. With 26 stalls you can be sure to find a wide variety of produce and there is no doubt that there is something on offer for everyone no matter their food preference. Furthermore, if that isn’t enough to tempt you there is also the benefit that this farmers market donates some of the money spent by customers to charities of their choice. This means that not only are you supporting small and local businesses, but you are also helping those in need in the local area.

If the Surbiton Farmers market is not close enough to home, other options such as Twickenham, Wimbledon and Barnes are also available and offer the same sort of services. As stated before, due to the national guidelines stating that corona virus laws must be followed it is imperative that social distancing at these markets is maintained. However, through the community spirit that is present in the markets with locals coming together to buy and sell produce and goods it is impossible not to feel welcomed and gain a sense of company in times of such loneliness, and so it is obvious why the farmers market industry has become so popular in recent times.
