‘Clap for the NHS’ on March 26th

Unarguably, Corona Virus is causing more harm than good, however, is it possible that during such a horrific pandemic, there may be some good that comes from it. The last few weeks have forced a dramatic change to each and everybody’s daily routine however with this forced change people are having to adjust what they previously knew to be just ‘normal life’. One of the major benefits which has come from this pandemic is the rise in community spirit, most simply seen by checking up on elderly neighbours or donating to a local food bank.

However, although the majority of people are making these simple changes in their daily life to help improve their community, this in no way adds up to the extraordinary efforts of those working on the front line, perhaps most notably the NHS staff. Although we are all aware of the incredible work the NHS is doing during this time, it is important to acknowledge this through actions. Hence the importance of ‘Clap For the NHS’, which took place last Thursday evening at 8pm.

This show of public support through direct action in recognition of their valiant efforts, should not be underestimated in creating a positive feel-good feeling during this time.

I live on a relatively quiet road yet still many families could be seen outside their homes. Not only were people clapping but banging spoons against pans and shouting out. It was an exceptional experience and something I will never forget. It truly signified the way communities are coming together in this horrific time.

It is important that moving forward through this time we continue to recognise the phenomenal efforts of the NHS and remember that we must do everything we can to help limit the spread of this disease.
