In and amongst the chaos of the COVID-19 outbreak, 190 countries and territories joined together for Earth Hour 2020. This takes place every year on the 28th of March and from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm, you must switch all your lights and appliances to give the earth a rest from the constant energy usage. The hashtag Earth Hour trended in over 37 countries and a lot of people I know think it’s a great idea however don’t know what to during this hour. This was my second year taking parts so I have a good list of ideas of what can be done!

Starting off simple, you can light some candles and read a book or magazine. Earth Hour is the perfect time to switch off from social media and real-life and find some time to enter a new world with no distractions. This year my brother and I decided to make cookie dough by candlelight, this was very difficult and chaotic but that added a whole new layer of fun to the process. Another thing you can do is a home workout, if you clear some space beforehand, this hour can be a great time to exercise. Earth Hour can also be a time of reflection on what you want to get out of it and the cause you are fighting for. What can you do to be more environmentally sustainable? This year what pledge can I make to cut down on carbon emissions? These are important questions to ask yourself during this hour!

I hope you have found these suggestions useful and will use them in the future, either just in your everyday life or in the 2021 Earth Hour.
