In modern society makeup amongst females has become something extremely common and in some cases even expected such as the workplace which has become an ongoing debate. Makeup has been something to really empower women giving the confidence that they need to fulfil their everyday duties and live their lives freely. Makeup can also be classed as a good thing as it helps certain insecurities. For example, amongst myself one of my main insecurities is the darkness around my eyes and after applying concealer it grants an extra layer of confidence as it is hidden or in fact covered up. Even though I’m happy in my natural skin, little touches of makeup do help in my confidence and that’s the same for most people who wear makeup so does this make it a good thing? If makeup is something allows people to feel better and live a happier more sustainable life shouldn’t that be something to be cherished?

On the other hand, makeup can be considered a bad thing in society as for a modern 21st century world we should be able to exurb the same level of confidence with or without makeup. It shouldn’t be something expected or meant to purify us in a way. It shouldn’t be a way to boost ourselves or keep up appearances. A natural beauty is something that should be encouraged and be greater than our faces with makeup on. In contrast to this, makeup essentially an art form and if we condemn that art form what expression is next? Where does it stop and how far do we keep going?

In conclusion amongst this debate it comes to one simple phrase ‘each to their own’. Everyone should have the choice to be able to wear fake lashes one day and go bare face the next. You should be proud and confident no matter what skin you choose to wear and none should be forced upon you.
