Surrey Comet:

Are you ready for School?

—The first term of the school year.

As the weather turns cold, the summer holiday went to the end. Students started going back to school to start a new academic year.

“I am so excited about it because I can see my friends again and I can do better than last year.”

“I wish I get more merit than last year and I am going to put more effort in my homework.”

“It’s always fun to learn new things.”

“I stayed at home for long enough and now I just miss my friends so much.”

“I like my school, the teachers are quite nice and I enjoy my design technology lessons.”

From the view point of the 5 students we interviewed, we can see that they are excited about going back to school, because they enjoy spending time with their friends and they found it is interesting to learn new knowledge. However, we also find that a lot of students do not like to go back to school.

“I hope the summer holiday would not be ended forever.”

“Certainly, I would like to see my friends again, but… it is always a big challenge for me to wake up early for school.”

“I feel stressed about my homework and tests.”

“I always feel quite upset at the end of the holidays.”

“I prefer to stay at home.”

“I do not like my school, because I do not like people in the school…”

Lots of students are saying that they are not willing to go back to school and there are a few reasons for it.

Surrey Comet:

Why do students don't like school? The book is an important work by Willingham, a professor of psychology at the University of Virginia. It is an educational psychology book popular with students and teachers. Using the principles of cognitive psychology, he analyses in detail the process of student learning and some issues that teachers must pay attention to in classroom teaching. Each chapter in the book uses a basic principle of cognitive psychology, such as "factual knowledge prior to skill" "memory is the remnant of thinking" "we understand new things in a known environment" "children In terms of learning, it is more similar than not different. "Teaching skills can be improved through practice" and so on.

"Why do students not like to go to school?" is a popular book on cognitive psychology and an introductory book on educational psychology. Many of the ideas in the book are novel and profound. As the beginning of the opening analysis of the role of the brain, the author believes that the brain is not used to think, its real role is to make you avoid thinking. Although human beings are born with curiosity, we are not born to be outstanding thinkers. Unless the cognitive environment meets certain requirements, we will avoid thinking as much as possible. The author points out that whether a student likes a school depends to a large extent on whether the school can continue to let students experience the pleasure of solving problems.

We are always able to find something interesting in our school life. As a student, we should find a target first and then working hard for it. However, do not forget to not push yourself too hard while trying to work hard. Interests and targets lead us to the right way.

Enjoy your school days!
