On Saturday 5th October from 6:30 pm to 10 pm,  local residents got together to raise money for children in need at a charity concert at Soper Hall in Caterham Valley. The event was skilfully organised by event planner Matthew Leadbeater who has been working for BBC Children in need for several years and has raised around £9000 for the charity. Matthew Leadbeater said he  organised the concert with the aim of "getting more people involved in helping to raise money"

The quaint Soper hall was tastefully decorated with balloons, bunting and disco lights. Tables and chairs were set up, and a variety of complimentary refreshments were available to the attendees, who had paid an entrance fee of £12 which went towards BBC children in need, to support disadvantaged children and young people in the UK. A face painting stall was set up for children, as well as a popcorn machine and sweets which were for sale.

A variety of musical genres were represented at the concert by the very talented, professional musicians who gave their time to perform at the event. With smooth jazz from Ryan Mac and a medley of pop songs from Phil Short, music performed by three other artists and the presence of Pudsy Bear, the concert was a successful way of bringing the community together for a tuneful night of music and all for a brilliant cause.

All in all, there were 25 people at the concert, including the volunteers, and over £200 was raised. The concert members seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves as they sang along, clapped their hands to the beat and got up to dance to the songs they loved best.
