YouTube is open to anyone, which allows there to be just about anything uploaded onto the site. I am prone to sharing what I see on YouTube with others, creating a mix of videos spread across different social networks. In this way, YouTube is seen a constructive outlet in which viewers are able to share ideas and form communities online based on those shared interests. However, this experience can be either positive or negative, based upon the situation depicted.

I believe that my personal views greatly reflect how I view YouTube; YouTube is a place to share and watch a multitude of videos on numerous topics and I embrace the media influence which YouTube brings.

I watch a great assortment of videos on YouTube. Though I am eager to watch new genres of videos, over time I have accumulated a rather distinct taste and I recognise that the videos I watch will differ considerably from the general demographic of those of my age- this, however can be used to highlight the innumerable assortment of videos creators are able to produce. The website can be used to creatively express one’s self and this is an occurrence I believe we should embrace in society.

Influencers make various YouTube videos which tackle current issues, leading both myself and other viewers to create our own responses and fuel creative discussion, though this can sometimes be adverse in nature.

I also discover things about topics I may be slightly unbeknownst about- for example social equality movements and different cultures. These topics are presented to me in such way where I can educate myself in an accessible manner and hence come away as a more open-minded person. Watching videos about other people’s experiences and ideas are very efficient ways to develop my personal opinions on such matters. I therefore believe that my viewpoint of society has been shaped for the better due to this exposure in a way I unequivocally would not have been able to experience, had I not joined this institution.
