On the 18th and 20th December, NMBEC attended Carol Services in Norbury’s parish church - St Oswald’s. This very festive event was delivered by Reverend Alison Brunt. The combination of Bible readings, prayers, Christmas plays, and songs contributed to this lovely event, making it very joyful. This proved to be a very successful event as many students and teachers donated money in order to help raise funds for the churches chosen charity, Shelter. Shelter is a great charity as it helps those who are homeless and are in need of shelter in the cold, winter months.

By sharing songs and readings of the Bible, this allowed the Norbury community to come together and celebrate Christmas at Norbury’s local Church. St Oswald’s were delighted to have Norbury Manor Business and Enterprise College attend its Church services as this tradition is very important. It raises awareness to worldly issues and gives our diverse school a chance for students and teachers to pray and practice according to their faiths.

As this is a Christian Tradition, parts of the scripture were read out, for instance, Luke 2:4-7 and Matthew 2:11, these readings really gave an insight into the festivities of Christmas and allowed everyone to feel jolly and bright. The school choir sang a few songs such as Hark! The Herald Angel Sing and Once in Royal David’s city.

St Oswald’s are continuing to hold events over the Christmas period so be sure to pay them a visit at The Parish Church of St. Oswald, Green Lane, Norbury, London SW16 3SB or look on their website at www.stoswalds.org.uk.
