The atmosphere was buzzing in West Norwood and West Dulwich On the 9th November, 2018, the opening night of the new cinema and library in the heart of South London. The new complex features 4 state of the art cinema screens, library, bar and kitchen and community room.

The development of this new Picturehouse and library has been much anticipated with residents from local areas waiting an extra 3 months with its prior opening date being the summer of 2018. However, now with the new cinema screens in place, everyone is excited and looking forward to enjoying films both independent and large Hollywood blockbusters from the likes of “Fantastic Beasts” to “The Fog”. Local resident Lydia, is “really excited about the new cinema. It’s great that it’s only a walk away for many and even if it’s not it’s a great trip for all with local stations only minutes away (West Norwood and West Dulwich). I love watching new films so this new cinema will be very handy”. As well as this every Saturday morning the cinema will be showing family friendly films including some old favourites including “Frozen” and “Incredibles 2”. This will encourage young families to make the most of their local cinema bringing parents and children together. Film lovers will also be pleased that scenes from the infamous “A Clockwork Orange” were filmed here. This connection is subtly showed through posters and orange furniture.

Not only does this new complex includes a cinema, but also includes a library and community room. The library is built on top of the original library built in 1888, providing locals with a range of books from fiction to non-fiction, magazines and even films. The state of the art architecture also includes a community room with a superb interior, offering a space for local residents to discuss local matters including the monthly “FEAST” and allows people to come together as a community. Local resident Helen from West Dulwich explains how she, “loves the idea of a community room as it allows her to meet new people and develop local issues. It is also special as we haven’t had anything like this as - a cinema and library all in one place.”
