Just like every year, the Edenbridge Bonfire Society hosted a night to remember!

Despite worries that the famous event (a celebration of Guy Fawkes’ failure to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605) would be no longer due to lack of funding, this year marked its 90th anniversary! On Saturday 3rd November, thousands of locals gathered along Edenbridge High Street to watch the spectacular, much-loved parade once again.

First down the road was Guy Fawkes himself, followed by General Wolfe and a headless Anne Boleyn, a brilliant start to the trail of celebrants! As always, the effort contributed from nearby schools and organisations was outstanding! The floats were simply incredible with an abundance of imagination and creativity. Crockham Hill flaunted an expertly-made ‘The Greatest Showman’ themed circus tent, Crowborough Cabs rolled down the street in a ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ party truck while Hever Primary School hosted a wild Hawaiian carnival! The mind-blowing floats really were a sight for sore eyes!

Wendy Morris, 64, stated that “The Pirates of the Caribbean one is definitely my favourite”, although others agreed that Edenbridge Primary School’s tribute to the fallen soldiers of our country shone high above the other contenders.

In addition to the exciting annual parade, there was a gorgeous firework display later on in the evening. What’s even more amazing is that wooden figures of Guy Fawkes and Boris Johnson had their heads blown off with gunpowder! What a night! I think it’s fair to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
