CRIME AT CARTERS

Steam fairs are innocent events that entice families, teenagers and the elderly with fun and games. However, on September the 8th  this fun and games turned into a mugging of a group of innocent boys at the hands of a gang of youths.

Carter’s steam fair had come again for the year, and with it came crowds of people wanting to play the carnival games and go on rides.
The group of boys, who wish to remain anonymous, were on their way to the fair on Wheatsheaf Common. It should be noted that a bit of criminal activity has been reported on Wheatsheaf Common such as drug deals or drug misuse.

The  gang of youths took the boys aside, and threatened them with a large knife, before taking the cash out of their wallets. Luckily the boys where left unscathed.

We always hear on the news that knife crime is on the rise, but this really struck home to me, as the crime happened so close to where I live { the wheatsheaf Common is only a five minute walk away } . This just goes to show how much crime is escalating when young boys are being assaulted by gangs of teenagers carrying knives. The crime is also worrying as it took place in such a busy location, in the middle of a fair, with many people around to possibly witness the crime.Furthermore, this shows how daring these young criminals will go to get a bit of extra cash.

Melanie Campbell told me “its extremely worrying when young boys are being mugged by teenagers with knives somewhere so close to where I live. I really hope that the government can crack down on these crimes, so that incidences such as this do not happen again.”

I completely agree with Melanie, and I hope that the government can decrease the amount of knife crimes that happen on a yearly basis, so that young boys and girls do not have to be worried about doing innocent things, such as going out to meet friends in the local park or going into town to watch a movie.
