Hayden Bird has vowed he will not stop tinkering with the Carshalton Athletic squad as he looks to boost the Robins’ Ryman Premier promotion hopes.

Boss Bird showed his ruthless streak last week as he cut loose first-teamers Liam Collins, Leigh Bremner and Matt York.

And the Carshalton manager revealed things may not be over yet.

Bird said: “I am not satisfied with being third in the table.

“I want to put as much pressure on Dover Athletic and Staines Town as we possibly can.

“With the break in fixtures it has allowed me to sit down with the directors and see where we are as a club and as a squad.

“If I want to bring players in players have to go - it is as simple as that.”

And Bird has remained true to his word as the outgoings allowed a trio of quality signings - central midfielder Jamie England from Wivenhoe Town, winger Ryan Martin from Welling United and striker Michael Power from Margate.

Bird added: “There are areas that we need to improve on and I think these new players will help.

“We have been playing 4-4-1-1 with Junior Kadi and Richard Jolly, but these signings will give us options and a lot more presence up front.”

The Robins will hopefully return to action on Saturday when fellow high-flyers Canvey Island are the visitors.

And Bird admitted he will be looking for some home comforts.

He added: “I really need to see an improvement at Colston Avenue.

“You are not going to play 42 great games in a season but our home form has been poor.

“We have an away record that any team would be proud of, but if we can start winning our home games it will give us a fantastic chance of promotion.”
