Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke hinted may be on the move in January to save his international career.

The Eagles front man who signed a contract extension in October to keep him at the club until 2021, has found game time at Selhurst Park hard to come by.

Motivated by missing out World Cup selection in 2018, the former Aston Villa and Liverpool man is eager to prove to national boss Roberto Martinez he is worthy of a spot in his Belgium squad for next summer's Euros.

Benteke scored a brace in Belgium’s 6-1 final qualifying win against Cyprus and hopes to take that form with him to Roy Hodgson’s side having not scored in the league this season.

The 28-year-old forward is aware that to do so he would need to be out on the pitch having played second fiddle to Jordan Ayew for the majority of the campaign.

“I hope this game will restore my confidence and give me the opportunity to score for Palace,” he was quoted by DH.

“However, I also have to think with the window coming up in January.

“I’ll think and see what I can do.

“I really want to go to the Euros next summer.

“I work like crazy every day with this goal in mind.”

'I'm happy with my game'

Belgium fielded a strong side against Cyprus albeit scattered with many non-regular starters, and it was an opportunity the £27million Palace man felt he had to take.

“Players who had less playing time were able to express themselves, it was important.

“Did I play well? Yes, I cannot lie, but the places in the first team are very expensive.

“I wanted to show the coach that I was there and that I was answering.

“I’m happy with my game as a whole.”

Benteke will be hoping to get on the pitch against his former club Liverpool when they visit Selhurst Park on Saturday.
